Our History

Prairie Grove School is believed to have been built in the late 1860’s, a one-room frame building on a field stone cement foundation. Ultimately that building on the current site was destroyed in 1971 and replaced by a new building.

Burtons Bridge School District consolidated with Prairie Grove District 46 maintaining three separate buildings: the original one-room school, Burtons Bridge South School, with two classrooms, and Burtons Bridge North School, both located east of the Prairie Grove School on opposite sides of Route 176. In 1975, the three buildings were incorporated into one school facility via major additions. Due to increasing enrollment, five new classrooms were added in 1984.

A new Junior High School was built in 1999 to accommodate increased enrollment. The Elementary School and District Office were also remodeled at that time.
