Dear PG Parent,
I hope everyone is doing well and can take a few moments to read over some of the latest information from our schools below.
Academic Excellence Award – 4 years straight
I have attached a certificate that the District received from the Illinois State Board of Education. Prairie Grove Elementary and Junior High received this honor for having 90% of our students meet or exceed state standards for the three most recent school years. Kudos to our entire community!
Mrs. Klinsky named Assistant Principal of the Year
Please congratulate Mrs. Beth Klinsky for being named Assistant Principal of the Year for the Illinois Principal Association’s Kishwaukee Region. She is up for the Assistant Principal of the Year Award for the entire state. Mrs. Klinsky is a student-first administrator and has been instrumental in moving the District successfully forward with Common Core, homework practices and positive student acknowledgment.
Illinois State Achievement Tests – Scoring to Change
Please read the attached letter about ISAT testing. This year’s ISAT tests will be scored with tougher expectations. Therefore, the state is expecting most scores to drop significantly. We typically receive these scores during the summer and report them to parents in the Fall.
Message from Food Service Manager – Jen Smith
Dear Parents, Teachers & Staff,

Please feel free to contact me and I will be glad to send a copy home with your child. You can also retrieve a new copy at the following link: http://www.dist46.org/menus. Prairie Grove Reading Incentive!
I have attached a District-wide reading incentive flyer and log to this email. All students will be receiving this next week and we hope you can encourage your child to read at home a little each night. We all can become great readers. Pick up a book and model for your child.
Safety Measures Update
Each school is tentatively scheduled to receive a new door buzzer/security system next week. Please excuse the work on our front doors if you happen to drop by. I want to thank our wonderful secretaries for implementing more safety screening measures since the New Year. In addition, each room in the building will be receiving a safety kit next week. It would be used in the event of a security or natural disaster event.
The next Principal Chat is scheduled for February 22, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the Junior High Conference Room. The topic of discussion will be the Future of Teaching; Common Core Curriculum, scheduling, programs, and evaluation processes. Please rsvp by sending me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Valentine’s Day Parties – Elementary
Valentine’s Day parties are just around the corner. I wanted to remind parents that candy is not permitted according to our District Allergy Policy. The school will be providing a snack for those parties as usual. Room parents are allowed to enter the room to set up for the parties beginning at 2:15. Parties are from 2:30 – 3:15.
If you know of someone who hasn’t registered a student for Kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year, please gently nudge him or her to come on in and register. Getting an accurate enrollment number for Kindergarten is crucial for our staffing plan.
Early Childhood Education Registration
If you are interested in enrolling your child into the ECE Program at Prairie Grove, please register as soon as possible. Most of the afternoon slots are full already. More information is on the district web site.
Canine Club Fundraiser
The Canine Club would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the faculty, staff and students who donated to the Puppy Love fundraiser. In addition, we are thankful to the Student Council, which donated $150 towards our cause. In total, $300 was raised for Helping Paws Animal Shelter. These funds will help us partake in Helping Paws Guardian Angel program, in which we will sponsor a dog kennel for a year and a cat cage for 3 months. The Guardian Angels provide funds that care for the animal residing in that particular kennel or cage. A plaque is placed outside the kennel or cage and the sponsorship is listed on Helping Paws website.
American Flag Donated by the 6-101st Aviation Regiment
Due to the deep caring attitude of our parents, staff and students towards the American Army and Veterans, Prairie Grove was honored with a flag flown on a combat mission in a UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter in support of Operation Enduring Freedom XIII. Prairie Grove sent a care package and holiday cards to the Soldiers of the 6-101st Aviation Regiment.
Important Date Reminders
February 8, 2013 is the midquarter homework deadline.
February 15, 2013 is a half day school attendance.
