 Keyboarding Skills
Throughout the year, students will be working towards developing their keyboarding skills. A district wide effort is under way to best prepare our students for the upcoming transition from the paper and pencil ISAT to the computer-based PARCC assessment. The PARCC assessment, which is scheduled to launch during the 2014-2015 school year, will be completely computer-based, meaning students will need to respond to questions (multiple choice, drop and drag, short response, and essay) via the computer.

Best practice shows that students make progress with keyboarding skills when they engage in daily practice (approximately 20 minutes) for a 4-8 week time period. All classes will participate for a 4 week period of time.

Two programs will be used and can be accessed through our district website under the Panther Portal Link. Students in grades K-2 will be using the program “Typing Web”, and students in grades 3-8 will be using “Typing Training”.

Students using “Typing Training” will have a unique username and password. Once a student has demonstrated proficiency, which differs from grade to grade, they no longer have to engage in the daily practice.

In the Junior High, students will participate during 9th period or study hall. If a student participates in band, teen leadership, or another activity during 9th period, they will continue to do so. For any student that may be in band 3-5 days per week, we strongly encourage them to practice their keyboarding skills at home. In fact, all students are encouraged to practice at home.

 Panther of the Month Awarded
Each month, our staff nominates students in each grade level that display extraordinary ROAR behaviors. The student and their family receive a congratulatory letter, certificate at school and their name announced at school. Congratulations to September’s Panther of the Month Award winners!

 School Spirit Day –
Each month, our District holds a friendly spirit day competition amongst our classrooms. The students need to wear green, black and/or white for their clothing or accessory to count. In September, Ms. Cotton’s room was the winner for the elementary and Mrs. Martin/Mrs. Lehner for the junior high.

 Substitutes Needed
Teacher and Nurse Substitutes are needed. If you are interested please see Mrs. McAvoy in the District office.

 Afterschool Activites
Please be on the look out for an upcoming survey to gather parent feedback about current and future after school activities.  Your opinion matters greatly to us.

 Junior High

Mix it Up Day
In light of our recent Rachel's Challenge Assembly, we are excited to announce Prairie Grove Junior High's participation in the National Mix it Up at Lunch Day.  On Tuesday, October 29, 2013, hundreds of schools across the United States will be providing this wonderful opportunity for their students.  At Prairie Grove, we will encourage our students to wear their new Rachel's Challenge T'shirts to serve as a reminder to be kind and compassionate to one another. During your child's lunch period, they will be asked to sit at a different lunch table to give them a chance to get to know some students they would not have spoken to otherwise.  While this might seem a bit intimidating, it is of dire importance that our students learn to greet others with dignity and respect and honor one another in spite of their differences.  We are very excited to embark upon this special day along with the hundreds of other schools in the Nation. Please encourage your children to approach this day with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
