PG Parent Update (3/18/14)

posted Mar 18, 2014, 10:14 AM by Web Master   [ updated Aug 11, 2014, 10:55 AM ]
Dear PG Parents,

Next week is Spring Break! Our District offices will be closed to the public during that time. We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing break. Here are several announcements to note:

DISTRICT NEWS

District 46 School Board Committees
If any parent is interested in being a member of the School Board of Education's Building and Grounds Committee or any other committee, please check the District 46 Committee Information Link for more information.

Spring Pictures
District 46 will provide the opportunity for students to take a spring picture on April 8th. Please read the Spring Picture Flyer for more details!

Student Discipline Privacy Rights
As the school principal, my first job is to maintain the safety of all students. I take this job very seriously and may either delegate or act on every situation that is brought to me. It is not uncommon that parents want to know how a particular student is being disciplined. Unless you are the parent of someone getting disciplined, I can not release that type of information. The privacy rights of individual students prohibits this kind of communication. Although parents/students often talk about how a student may or may not have gotten away with something, I urge everyone not to speculate or spread rumors about other students. Please trust that the school has taken the proper actions when it comes to school discipline.

Dental Deadline
A mandatory dental exam by a Dentist is required for all Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grade students by May 15th.  The school may hold a student's report card if proof of examination is not provided by May 15th.

JUNIOR HIGH NEWS

Strep Throat Alert

Mrs. Chlebicki, our school nurse, has seen a rise in strep throat cases in the junior high. Please keep in mind the following information/tips:
  • What are the symptoms? Sore throat. It may be accompanied by fever, upset stomach, headache, or other symptoms of illness. Call your doctor for diagnosis and treatment if any of these occur.
  • How is it spread? Through direct contact with mucous from the nose or throat of an infected person.
  • When do symptoms start? 2-5 days after exposure
  • Need to keep child home? Yes! Your child may return to school after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment and a note from the medical provider. Be sure to complete the entire round of antibiotics, or else the bacteria may not be killed and the strep throat may return.
  • Please notify the school nurse, Diane Chlebicki, if your child is diagnosed as having strep throat.

ELEMENTARY NEWS

Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Hello parents!  We still have openings in our Early Childhood Education program for the 14-15 school year.  We serve children ages 3-5 in ECE.  We offer both morning and afternoon sessions, each 2.5 hours in length.  This is a five day program and our students who have attended are quite well prepared for kindergarten here at D46.  Please contact Beth Martin with questions at 815-459-3557 ext 4207.

Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found bins are overflowing with items just waiting to be claimed such as hats, coats, gloves, lunch boxes, boots, etc. Please remember to check out the green bins located in the elementary front lobby and the junior high gymnasium doors for your missing items. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity by next week.

Elementary Recess
Prairie Grove Elementary staff and administration have been talking about additional ways of motivating students to complete homework this year, as well as having additional time to instruct students who need extra help. The staff and administration have decided to bring back an additional recess break once per week in order to accomplish this. Students who are missing homework or need additional help may be asked to stay in with a teacher at this time. Thank you for your support.

PTO NEWS

Sincerely,

Vic Wight
