PG Parent Update (4/23/14)

posted Apr 23, 2014, 8:48 AM by Scott Martin   [ updated Aug 11, 2014, 10:54 AM by Web Master ]
Dear PG Parent,

Spring has finally arrived! We look forward to all the great work yet to be done by our students while wrapping up another successful year. There are a lot of events coming up in the next 5 - 6 weeks and we would love to see you attend. Please continue to assist your child by checking their assignment notebook or assignments via PowerSchool and encouraging them to finish the year strong!

Here are the updates from different areas of our school:

Map Testing
Our final round of MAP testing will begin May 1st for Kindergarten - Eighth grade. These test results provide us valuable insight into how successful our teaching has been and what we need to do to improve or continue.

Summer School
Please check out 2014 Summer School Sessions! Click on the following link for details: Summer School Brochure

Parent Student Handbook
Every year our Prairie Grove SD 46 Parent Student Handbook is reviewed. I receive updates through the Illinois Principal's Association, which aligns handbook language with School Board Policies. Typically, we ask for parent feedback about certain rules/procedures in our Parent Student Handbook. If you have any suggestions for improvement, feel free to email me your suggestions. The current Handbook can be found at the following link: 2013-2014 Handbook. I thank you in advance for any help you provide.

6th Grade Dance
Finally! The 6th graders have done a fabulous job adjusting to the Junior High. Let's have a dance. Please check the attached flyer for details.

6th - 8th Grade Honor Roll Breakfast
Congratulations to all of our Panthers who made the honor roll this year. We'd like to honor you with a small breakfast provided by the PTO. Please see the attached invite.

8th Grade Dinner Dance
The PTO has extended the deadline until this Friday. Please see the attached letter for more details!

Kindergarten Concert
This is one of my favorite concerts of the year. Please join us on May 1st at 7:00 p.m. to see your children up on stage and shining. A short reception will follow.

ABC Countdown
Our elementary staff would like to have a school-wide ABC Countdown! The countdown to the end of the year begins on April 29th and Mrs. Maggiore will be reminding kids through our announcements. The theme for each letter is attached below!

Daddy Daughter Dance
The Daddy Daughter Dance was a huge hit last year. A second dance is set for May 9th at 7:00 p.m. Please take a look at the attached flyer for details. K-8 students are all welcome!

Book Fair - BOGO - Volunteers Needed
The By One Get One free book fair is Thursday, May 15. This is a one day event that Scholastic offers our school because of our great organizers: Dawn Hines and Melanie Petrowitz. If anyone is willing to assist, please let us know and I will forward your email to one of them!

PTO Old and New
I'd like to take a moment to thank Cynthia Jones and Lori Ciezak for the past two years of wonderful service to our children. They are our outgoing PTO officers and have brought a lot of great new ideas and energy to our already highly successful PTO. Please congratulate our new PTO School Board. They are as follows:

President: Sarah Bittner
Vice President: Christine Schmidt
Secretary: Anna Olas
Treasurer: Lynn Wehner
