Schools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Friday, October 12. 2012.  The Board and Teacher Negotiations teams met for over six hours with the Federal Mediator and were unable to reach agreement.  The Teachers informed the Board that they will be on strike.

The YMCA in Crystal Lake is offering a low cost daycare alternative for families.  For more information call Nancy Holvay at 815-526-1636.

The Board of Education and the Prairie Grove Teachers Association met with the Federal Mediator for more than six hours tonight, October 11, 2012.  Although the Board has imposed its last best and final offer, the parties have worked diligently to reach an agreement.  The Board has agreed to the Union salary requests and the Union request for a “salary schedule”.  The Board and the PGTA have agreed to the amount of money that the Board will contribute for health insurance premiums.

At the beginning of the session, the only issue separating the parties last night was the Union demand that the Board make additional payments to  some individuals for deductibles in addition to paying for premium costs.  Late in the session, the PGTA added several other proposals.

The Board believes that agreement can be reached quickly if the parties concentrate on the issue that was open at the beginning of the session last night.  Another mediation session has been scheduled for October 12, 2012 at 9 AM in the Elementary Multi-Purpose Room.  The public is invited as observers only.  Please feel free to attend if you choose.
