Opportunity for Public Participation

by Mary Fasbender

This is an exciting time in the life of our school district.  In the days and weeks ahead, this is a time for your voice to be heard!  During this week the Board and members of the school community will be working together to develop new beliefs, values, goals, and a new mission.  What we have is a blank canvas with a tremendous opportunity for public comment in the creation of a plan to guide the Board of Education in the future decisions that they make for our school community.

After months of sharing the news of this event, the planning is now about to begin with members of the community who have graciously volunteered hours of their time to develop these new key elements for our District.  The plan meetings are being held in the Junior High Library Learning Center on the following dates and times:

Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 5:30 to 9:30 PM

Thursday, Nov. 8 from 5:30 to 9:30 PM and

Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8:00 AM to Noon

Please send your ideas via email to Mary Sutfin at msutfin@dist46.org.  You may also send your thoughts/letters to School District 46, 3223 IL Route 176, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, or by FAX to 815 356-0519.  Please mark these as strategic planning.

There will also be several other times in the future when the Board will be seeking your input if you are unable to provide it now.  Once our new draft of beliefs, values, goals, and a mission are written they will be shared on our website for your input,  through a community forum , and then eventually at the Board of Education level where more public comments will be taken. There will be an annual stakeholders meeting in future years to review and modify as needed.  We wish to thank all of you who are helping us determine a direction for the future of our schools.
