Seventh Grade Expectations

Seventh Grade Expectations

Prairie Grove is a ROAR school:  Respect, Ownership, Attitude, and Responsibility.  The following expectations reflect these principles.

1.    Show respect for yourself and others by listening and speaking appropriately.  Raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged before talking.

2.    Be in your seat and prepared to start class when the bell rings.

3.    Bring all necessary materials to class every day.  Required materials include textbook, paper, blue or black pen and/or pencil, and homework.

4.    Respect school property and the property of others.

5.    Be responsible for doing your own work and submitting it on the due date.

6.    Take responsibility for making up absent work and tests.  (Use your study hall time wisely)

7.    Follow the school rules at all times, including off campus activities.

8.    Respect the “Hands Off” policy.

CONSEQUENCES FOR RULE VIOLATIONS

1.    Verbal warning

2.    Check mark

3.    Thirty-minute detention

4.    Sixty-minute detention

5.    Severe Behavior Clause invoked:  Steps 1-5 may be bypassed if the teacher determines that the student’s behavior warrants more serious action.  This action could result in removal from the classroom.

6.    Reward activities and/or field trips may be denied.

** Any consequence may be given in response to a student’s behavior at the discretion of the teacher. Parents may be contacted at any time.

TEAM HOMEWORK POLICY

Assignments will be posted in the classroom and on the Prairie Grove Junior High School website (www.dist46.org)

1.             Students are expected to complete all class work and homework by the due date.

2.             Late assignments will be given only partial credit at the discretion of each teacher. There may be times when late assignments are not accepted.

3.             Grades may be accessed online.  Please call the front office for your password if you do not have one already. Students should take responsibility for their grades by checking their grades often.

4.             Refer to the PGJH handbook for the school policy on absent work.

Parents may request compilation of missing work after their child has been absent for more than one school day. The teachers are happy to accommodate these requests. However, it does take quite a bit of time to gather work/materials. Please honor our time by making sure that you will be available to pick up the work and that your child is well enough to complete the work. If your child is only absent for one day, please use the web site to check assignments.

REWARD ACTIVITIES

Students may have the opportunity to participate in quarterly reward activities if they meet the following criteria:

1.             No more than 1 missing assignment in any core class. No major assignments/tests may be missing.

2.             No more than 1 (one) detention within the quarter (or a total of 6 team behavior checks)

3.             No suspensions

4.             A signed permission slip and fees returned by the required date.

Students that do not earn the privilege of participating in the reward activity continue with their daily instruction. There is no need to keep your child at home for the entire day of the reward activity.

STUDY HALL

Each team at Prairie Grove sets the criteria for expectations for study hall behavior.  Students should understand that the seventh grade expectations may or may not follow the sixth grade format for study hall.

Seventh grade students are expected to utilize study hall time to enrich and enhance their learning experience.  Students are expected to be quiet, work on homework, study for tests, or conference with other teachers about assignments.  Students who have absent work or tests to make up should use this time to complete the assignments.  Students may also attend band, teen leadership, movie club and other related activities during this time. Students may not visit other teachers for help or to make up missed tests until 2:20 unless they have a pass.

What to do following an absence….

1.    We expect 7th grade students to be responsible for completing their absent work in a timely manner.

2.    Students are responsible for asking each of their teachers for their missing work.

3.    Students who have missed tests may use their study hall time to make up these assignments. Be sure to get a pass from the teacher if you need to leave study hall before 2:20.

4.    Students should check online for several days after returning to school to be sure that all assignments have been completed.

The 7th grade teachers look forward to a great 2008-2009 school year!
