The District 46 Board of Education has selected Dr. Lynette Zimmer to serve in the role of District Superintendent effective July 1, 2010.  Dr. Zimmer will succeed Dr. Mary Fasbender who will retire at the end of the 2009-2010 school year after six years as District Superintendent and 35 years in education.

Dr. Zimmer began her teaching career in Kenosha, Wisconsin elementary schools, and then became a Mathematics Specialist.  She later worked in Zion # 6 and Fremont # 79 Districts in Illinois over the course of her administrative career.  Her experience in administration includes serving as both Assistant Jr. High Principal and Elementary Principal, and she has held the position of Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services since 2003 in District 79.  Dr. Zimmer received her Doctorate of Education from Loyola University, her Masters in Educational Leadership from Univ. of Wisconsin--Milwaukee, and her Bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin–Parkside.

“Dr. Zimmer has a strong resume and is well prepared to lead the District into the future,” said Board of Education President Laura Domoto.  “What impressed us most about Dr. Zimmer is her commitment and focus on student achievement and strategic planning.”   The terms of the new contract have been finalized by the Board and Dr. Zimmer.

Retiring Superintendent Mary Fasbender stated “I believe that Dr. Zimmer’s enthusiasm for instruction and her communication skills will serve the District well as she works to develop relationships and partnerships with students, staff, and the community.”

Dr. Zimmer is also the author of  STAR: A Character Education Curriculum for Elementary Students, and she has taught graduate level courses for National-Louis University for the past six years.  She resides in Burlington, Wisconsin with her husband, George.

The search for the new Superintendent was facilitated by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB), dedicated to strengthening public schools.
