Language Arts:
- You can expect your child to begin bringing home leveled book bags beginning Friday, September 12th.
- Your child is expected to read 110 minutes of reading each week, and log this reading on their reading logs. Please share some of this reading time with your child. I encourage you to read to your child as well as read with your child, and to also allow your child to spend some of the 110 minutes reading alone.
- Each Friday, a new spelling list will come home. Your child will be tested on these words the following Friday.
Math:
- The year began with a review of place value. Your child should be able to look at a two digit number and tell you how many tens are in that number as well as how many ones are in that number.
- Monday, September 8th we will begin looking at patterns in numbers, skip counting, and even and odd numbers.
- Monday, September 15th we will begin looking at ordinal numbers, comparing numbers, and placing numbers in order.
Science:
- Science has begun with a thorough exploration into plants, their parts, and their habitats. We are excited to be using a new Science series by Pearson Publishing. We will be exploring plants for the first quarter of the school year.
Social Studies:
- Social Studies begins with a look into our community. We carefully explore the differences between an urban community, a suburban community, and a rural community.
