2010-2011 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for the 2010-2011 school year will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Registration will be held at Prairie Grove Elementary School, 3223 IL Route 176, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, from 1:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2010 (born on or before September 1, 2005) are eligible for Kindergarten in August, 2010. You must be a resident of District 46. This requires providing at least two forms of proof - a driver’s license and voter’s registration card. If you do not have a voter’s registration card, then three current utility bills may be substituted for this requirement. Gas, electric, and water bills will be accepted, but telephone and cable television bills will not be accepted. Families who have recently moved into the District also must provide a house closing statement. Renters will need to provide a signed and dated lease with proof of payment of rent, either a cancelled check or receipt. State law requires an original or certified copy of the birth certificate at the time of registration. (A hospital birth announcement can not be accepted.) A copy of your child’s social security card is also needed at the time of registration. School personnel will be available to discuss physical and immunization requirements as well as program specifics. Your child does not need to attend registration. A student orientation is planned for the summer.

We will also be scheduling appointments for Preschool/Kindergarten screening, scheduled for Wednesday, February 24 and Thursday, February 25, 2010. Kindergarten registration and screening assist us in making placement decisions for the following school year. It is important that we know who is enrolled in Kindergarten as soon as possible so that we can make the appropriate plans for hiring staff. Students who are enrolled just prior to the start of school can lead to overcrowded classrooms. If you have any questions, please call (815) 459-3023.
