Superintendent Search

By Mary Fasbender

Dear School/Community Members,

On November 10, 2009, I announced my intention to retire as Superintendent of School District 46 effective at the end of this school year.  I made the decision to retire for family and personal reasons after spending the past six years here and 35 successful years in education.  I believe that my retirement comes at a time where I can best serve my family.  I have enjoyed my tenure here and want to thank the staff and community who have contributed to our schools’ success.  In the remaining months ahead I will remain focused on our mission – the continued high achievement and growth of our students and serving the community of School District 46.

At their Regular Board Meeting on Jan. 12, the Board determined the scope and timelines of the search for a new Superintendent.  Dawn Miller, Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) consultant will be handling the entire search process for the Board.  A Superintendent of Schools must have a Masters degree and hold an IL State Certificate with a Superintendent Endorsement (30 graduate hours beyond a Master’s degree) in an approved Superintendent’s preparation program.  This endorsement also requires at least two years experience as an administrator or supervisor in an approved school or program as a supervisor or administrator, while holding a supervisory certificate or a certificate comparable in validity, education, and experience required.

Should you or someone you know be interested in applying for this position please go to the IASB website at www.iasb.com.  There is a link off their homepage on the left hand side menu entitled Executive Searches.  Click on that link and when the next page appears select “current searches.”  Scroll down the list until you find Prairie Grove School District 46 and follow the directions.  All applications for the Superintendent position must be submitted through the IASB website in order to receive consideration.

Next Steps in Superintendent Search:

    • This survey is for all school/community members who wish to participate
    • The results of these surveys will go directly to Dawn Miller at IASB and all results will be shared anonymously with the Board

From mid-Jan to mid-Feb if you wish to complete the IASB Survey you may do so by clicking on the www.dist46.org website. Within the homepage article entitled “Superintendent Search” please select the survey link http://tinyurl.com/prairiegrovecsd46
