Prairie Grove 46 has a simple new recipe: make it easy and seamless for parents to purchase food service lunches and registration fees for their child(ren) with a single checkout even when the students are in different grades. Effective November 1st, 2005, Prairie Grove initiated an electronic payment system that allows the school to accept payments from parents with VISA or MasterCard. Here's how it works: every time a purchase is made by a parent for student lunches or payment of school registration the business office completes the data entry for processing of the purchase. Only specified office staff input order information for essential VISA or MasterCard payments. The office staff then records the student(s) paid for appropriate lunches/registration and sends out the updated report to the cafeteria staff for allocation of correct lunch tickets following their usual procedure from there. The cafeteria staff appreciates the simplified system because of the reduced time for counting cash and processing checks. Parents like it because they don't have to send cash and checks to school; they can drop money directly into their student's lunch account and not worry about it being lost or misplaced on the way to school. The District benefits due to less mail to handle, fewer checks to process, and improved technology for accountability reporting. We hope that parents will utilize this system and find the convenience an important value to help reduce some portions of their hectic schedules.
