Weekly Assignments for Mrs. Borscha's Class

by Kristen Borscha

Weekly Assignments

Each night, our second graders are responsible for...

Reading for 10-15 minutes

Talking about what they have read

This will help you to determine if your child is comprehending what he or she is reading. When you are reading with your child, ask him or her questions after each page or several pages. If your child is reading alone, ask him or her to talk to you about what was read. Ask what the story was mostly about, what his or her favorite part was, or what the problem in the story was and how it was solved.

Studying spelling words in multiple ways

Have your child write his or her words and use them in sentences in addition to spelling them aloud. Try some fun study methods, like spelling the words out with food, like M&M's, fruit snacks, or dried beans. Try magnetic letters on the refrigerator or use shaving cream and have your child write the words with his or her finger. Have fun and be creative. The more you study, the more prepared your child will be to spell these words after the week is over.

In addition, your child may bring home a project such as a book report to complete at home.
