ELL Families

It's SUMMER SCHOOL registration time!
Please register your child as soon as possible for kindergarten. Children who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2010 are eligible for kindergarten in August 2010. You must be a resident of District 46.
Fifth and sixth grade had a great time at the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet!
Dear Parents,
Students have been bringing home learning games called Frog Family Fun-Packs to play with you each week! If you need the game for three days, that is fine. I would like for you to play the games with your child for ten minutes daily, three times. Playing the game three days will develop twenty-five important basic skills that help your child to learn school lessons more quickly and confidently. The games are easy to play, have fun!
Your children are working very hard in my class. I am seeing great progress. Your child's reading will get better if he/she practices every night. Please help your child to practice the books I have provided inside the book bags. When they get stuck on a word, remind them to look at the picture and say the beginning sound, or to think of a word that would make sense in the sentence.
When your child has thought of a word, remind him/her to ask, "Does it look right, sound right, and make sense in the sentence?" These things will help them become more independent readers.
Please continue to work with your children and ask them what they have learned about today!

Thanks so much for all of your help, I am so happy to be teaching your children.
Please remember that I am just a phone call away if you have any concerns. Here are some helpful tips to improve reading:
1. Read often. The more you read, the easier reading gets. Good readers, make good writers.
2. Read a lot of different things (magazines, street signs, newspapers, & stories).
3. Use strategies you have learned in school.
4. Pick out books having a subject that interests you.
5. Have fun!
* Please remind your child to return borrowed books every Tuesday. Kindergarten and first grade students bring book bags daily.
*Please have your children check out the computer learning sites listed below.
