Homework for Literature/Language Arts

Announcements:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask for missed assignments and to arrange to come to during study hall to complete make-up tests.
Book Fair: Students will go to the book fair during literature classes on Thursday, December 4th.
Thursday is library day.
If you are having difficulty in class, you should come see me during study hall so that I can help you. Make sure to ask me for a pass.
All graded assignments are returned on Fridays (or the last day of the week.)
Period 1: Literature
1. Reading logs- 130 minutes per week. Due every Thursday.
2. Study Island-Please complete "Vocabulary Development" on Study Island by Friday, 12/5. This will count as a literature assignment. You will use your school userid + @pgjh and your school computer password to login to the web site. See me if you are having problems with this.
Periods 2 and 8: Language Arts
1. We are working on the Word Choice trait in the 6 +1 Trait Writing Model. Students are practicing writing and scoring short essays for Ideas,Word Choice and Voice.
2. Students are working on conjugation of verbs. Please review the verb tenses and remember the patterns.
Periods 4 and 5: Accelerated Class
1. Study vocabulary every night. Test will occur after each 20 words and may or may not be announced. Vocabulary is cumulative. Use the bags that I gave you and continue making index cards.
2. We are working on regular/irregular verbs and verb conjugations. Grammar is cumulative. If you are need help, please come see me during study hall. Study the patterns of conjugations from your notes.
3. The next writing project is a historical fiction story. You must include correct period elements into the paper. That should be a primary focus. Plans have been collected and approved. Please begin to work on this story and anticipate a final paper (8-11 pages long) being due probably around the second week in December.
4. Students are now reading one of two novels. Please keep up with your reading. Use sticky notes as an active reading strategy and bring questions you have to class discussions. If you are reading "Ransom", you should be reading chapters7 and 8. If you are reading "Witch", you should be reading chapters 11-13. This reading should be complete by the beginning of the period on Wednesday, December 5, 2008.
5. Review the spelling rules from your notes and be ready to apply them.
6. Study Island Vocabulary Development- please complete vocabulary selections by Friday, 12/5 on studyisland.com.
